Part 4
<After the four run-throughs>
I ran into the dressing room, drank one whole bottle of water, and went to the bathroom. After I came out, I went to check the times I have to be out there first – 10:45AM. I looked at the time now: 10:20AM. That means I have 25 minutes. I sat down and put my head on the table. Before I knew it, I was asleep.
“OKITE! Sayuko WAKE UP!”
I looked up, and saw Ya-Ya-yah in front of me.
“What are you doing?! We only have 5 minutes until rehearsal starts!” They yelled at me, surprised I could actually fall asleep, relaxed.
I went in the bathroom again to wash my face.
“Put this on! I put it on your chair!”
I went out again, and saw a pair of concert outfit laid on top of the table instead. I put it on.
“Is this okay?” I asked sheepishly, turning around and around, offering them the opportunity to fix anything they see wrong with how I’m wearing my costume.
“Yeah, it’s okay.” They continued to stare at me.
“What are you guys staring at? Can you either tell me or stop?” I asked, irritated at all the eyes on me, making me center of attention.
“You…” Yabu started.
“are so….” continued Hikaru.
“tall.” Shoon finished. What are they talking about? I’m only 170cm <5’8>. That’s like a whole foot shorter than my dad. I’m not going to lose in height! At least not by that much! And besides, aren’t we talking about why they’re all staring at me? What does that have to do with my height?!
“No I’m not. My dad’s 190cm <6’8> and he’s not even a basketball player. I doubt he’s even played basketball before.” I defended.
“How tall are you intending to be?” they asked all at once, curious by my answer.
“Well, I want to be at least 175cm <5’10>.” I responded.
“Wow, none of us are even at that height yet! Taiyo’s close, but not yet. Go stand next to each other! How far apart are you guys in height?!” The tall boy came to stand next to me.
“Ne, ne! Who’s taller?” he asked eagerly.
“You’re taller…but she’s catching up!” Yabu exclaimed.
“Don’t lose to a girl <in height>, Taiyo!” Hikaru, the shortest, added. Everyone laughed. Maybe they’re really nice after all. Maybe I should try to befriend them! What am I even doing here?
“Demo…how come we’re talking about height? Aren’t we talking about why you’re staring at me?” I asked, bring us back to the topic.
“Yes… about that… that was why we were staring at you. You still have to go through puberty, and yet you’re that tall already!” Yabu exclaimed.
“Ah, you guys! We have to go NOW!” Shoon suddenly exclaimed, and proceeded to run out the door, followed by me and the rest of Ya-Ya-yah. Shoon was fast. As soon as I was out the door, he was already at the end of the hallway, ready to turn right. I picked up my speed, and followed, catching up quickly. Because we sprinted to the stage, we were just in time.
<After the concert>
“WOW! Sayuko! You were great! You didn’t forget any of it!” Ya-Ya-yah all surrounded me, and complimented on my outstanding performance.
“That’s because I slept right before the rehearsal.” I replied, bitter from the recollection of them waking me up from my sleep.
Behind me, I could hear Yabu telling Hikaru, “She’s so my-pace. A bit annoying, don’t you think?”
“Iya, I don’t think so. I like her. She’s really kakkoii…” was Hikaru’s reply. “…and kawaii” he added quietly, not wanting anyone but Yabu to hear. Well, I heard, and was smiling idiotically to nobody in particular.
“What’s all this fuss here?” An older boy came, attracted by the small circle. His blond and brown highlights in his black hair made him look 18. As he got closer, he saw me and introduced himself, “Oh, I’m Kamenashi Kazuya from KAT-TUN. I’m 17, and in my final year of..HIGH SCHOOOOOOLLL!!!” He made fists with his hands, lifted it up high over his head, and ran away, all the while saying, “I’m senior now! I’m going to graduate in three months and I’ll be done with school!!! Someone high-five me!”
We watched him run away to high-five people. Shoon was the first one to recover from the disruption. “Don’t mind him.” he said, laughing.
After this concert, I became accepted by many people, who were all stunned by my ability to remember songs and dances really well in a short amount of time. However, I was still not happy in the jimusho…
